Like most people in their 20s, Haley Sacks did not understand money. She had a desire to enter the financial world, but it seemed the only methods of learning its ins-and-outs involved indecipherable jargon and boring videos. Sacks took note of the content gap in the personal finance sector and, fueled by her frustration, decided to combine her newfound interest in finances and her background in entertainment to do the impossible: make finance cool.
Four years later, it seems Sacks has conquered the impossible. Using a combination of pop culture, humor, memes, videos, and more, Haley has gotten through to millennials and Gen Z about finance. Sacks now engages over 400,000 followers across her social media platforms, and that number is continuing to grow daily.
Under the Instagram moniker @MrsDowJones, launched in 2018, Sacks produces content that is equal parts hilarious and educational. Her content spans the most important topics for the modern-day adult. It takes them step-by-step through financial transformation, from ‘money mindsets’ to teaching the masses about investing, building an online brand and cryptocurrency. She does this all with her signature wit, showcasing that investing is not just the realm of Patagonia-vest-wearing Wall Street Boomers but something we are all capable of. The world didn’t need another economics professor; it needed a Finance Pop Star to meet the moment – enter @MsDowJones, a woman making financial literacy inclusive and empowering for the tech-savvy social media age.
Sacks was named in Fortune’s 40 Under 40 in 2020, and in 2021, she was named one of InStyle’s Badass 50. This year, Haley was named the AdWeek Creative Visionary Award Winner for Personal Finance Advice.
In the Fall of 2021, Haley launched her first course Start Here via Finance Is Cool University. Start Here is a go-at-your-own-pace money 101 course which helps you gain control of your finances and is the first step to becoming your own trust fund. She has followed that up with Let’s Invest – a beginners guide to Wall Street. The course is so actionable that by the end, students are guaranteed to have money in the market.
Haley lives in NYC with her miniature poodle Mystery. She enjoys dirty martinis, playing tennis, and helping women step into their financial power.
